Formula 1 Icon Eddie Jordan Passes Away at 76
Former Formula 1 team owner and broadcaster Eddie Jordan has passed away at the age of 76. Jordan, who revealed his aggressive prostate cancer diagnosis in December 2024, died peacefully in Cape Town on March 20, 2025, surrounded by family.
A Legacy in Formula 1
Jordan ran his own F1 team from 1991 to 2005 and is famously known as the man who gave Michael Schumacher his big break in Formula 1. Schumacher later became a seven-time world champion, cementing his place as one of the greatest drivers in history.
Family Statement
Jordan’s family shared the heartbreaking news:
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie Jordan OBE—ex-Formula 1 team owner, TV pundit, and entrepreneur. He passed away peacefully with family by his side in Cape Town after battling an aggressive form of prostate cancer for the past 12 months.”
“EJ brought an abundance of charisma, energy, and Irish charm wherever he went. His absence leaves a huge void, but he leaves us with incredible memories that will keep us smiling through our sorrow.”
F1 World Pays Tribute
Jordan’s passing has deeply impacted the Formula 1 community, where he was considered an irreplaceable figure.
The FIA, Formula 1’s governing body, released a statement:
“Eddie Jordan was a legend of Formula One. His contributions to global motorsport were invaluable. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. He will always be remembered as a passionate ambassador for the sport.”
